Stall Speed torque converter questions

hi all, got a quick question for ya. recently jsut finished my 79 camaro drag car put a th350 in freshly rebuilt and a jegs 3500-3800 stall speed converter in it. (supposedly these are built by B&M according to jegs salesman) any how i've never driven a car wiht a converter in it and when i go to accelarate the car in first gear it take alot of rpm to get it rolling im talking about 2000-2500. reverse, second, and third seem to be just fine. is this normal? to me it seems like tranny is biniding up in first gear. thanks for the help.

With a TCI 3200 stall and Griner VB, mine will creep at idle, slip some and eventually lock in, but I don't experience any free revving starting out. Where does yours flash at?

Your high stall converter is doing exactly what it's supposed to do... allow the motor to spin up into its power band before the converter "stalls."

You may be experiencing the difference between a cheap restalled factory converter and a quality-built aftermarket converter. I can tell you from my experience that the difference is night and day.

My turbo truck started out with a $350 restalled (3000) factory 12" converter and it ran as you described. After 2 years of frustration, I dropped $700 on a Precision Industries 3400 stall 9.5" converter. This smaller converter drives like a stocker but dropped my 60ft times from 2.3 to 1.7 and the 1/4 times from 13.4 to 12.2. One other note is that my truck idles at 950 RPM yet will set still on level ground without pulling forward. A slight bump on the pedal will get 'er going just fine.
