starter cranks over when i hook the battery cable up
My starter turns over when I hook up the battery terminal. I have switched the wires around and it still does it. I replaced the wiring going down to the starter, so its all new. The starter is new also. I went as far as changing the steering column. This is on a 1978 z28 camaro.. any help will be appreciated.

There is a short between the battery terminal and the "S" terminal on the solenoid.
it is either the solenoid itself or or the wireing between the solenoid and the ignition switch or the ignition switch. A ohm meter will find the short. |
thank you very much

s terminal should only have 12v when the key is in start
if you tried a different starter likely its in the wiring like f bird said |
I have seen solenoids with out the spot for the tab to hold the positive cable in the right position or a positive cable without the tab cause this. When you install the positive cable it can lay over into the s terminal. Most likely this is your issue if the solenoid is not broken.
