starter,ignition switch,or battery?

i have a 1965 chevy impala .when i try starting the car the starter keeps turning over once the car is started.i missed up my ignition switch and just got a new one.but its starter is still staying on.im wondering if the ignition cylinder is the problem because when i hotwire the starter turns of are if its because the battery mite be low.if you can help please let me know what you think.thank you.

I have no idea what you just said there. From what I got so far though is that your starter "hangs" after you start it with the key but doesn't "hang" when you hotwire the car?
