Starter Motor

I replaced the starter motor on my 1968 Chevy 372 motor, the car started right up. I then disconnected the battery and did some minor maintenance on the car. Now it won't start, no clicking no nothing. I attempted to jump the starter w/a screw driver, then it stuck in on position. The motor was running, starter didn't kick back out. It was a grinding sound...

Any Thoughts, Ideas, Opinions?!

starter motor

there is a red wire the that connnects to the positive battery terminal from the fender by the battery that runs to the ignition switch switch. nothing will work without that wire not being connected. i just replaced my starter yesterday and the same thing happened to me. i hope you have a warenty for that starter motor and i hope you didnt grind any flyway teeth off. try to find that wire first and you should be able to start it from inside the cab.
