Starter Question

i have a 69 chevelle 305,I was cranking and cranking my starter. Will I kill the starter if i keep doing that?

YES.
They are not designed to crank continually.

Why are you having to crank and crank and crank?
Thats a better question to ask IMO..

cranking and cranking....

Hi,if your rod doesnt start within 15 or 20 seconds,find out why,fix what needs fixing,and you wont have to keep cranking. but,if you use the starter for more than about 30 seconds,STOP,and let it cool down,OR,you will be buying another starter.

My car was laying for a month. I was pumping it, starting it, 3 times. On the 3rd start i was cranking it for about 5 seconds.

When an old carbed car has been sitting for that long I will pour about an ounce of gas in the carb. It will fire right up without killing the battery.
On Holley carbs you can also fill the fuel bowls through the vent tube. That way the engine will stay running long enough to pull its own fuel.
