starter woes

1968 Mercury Park Lane 390. Starter does not want to disengage.

Have new starter relay, new solenoid and new starter. Ignition will not trigger engine, but dash indicator lights on. Jumping solenoid will start engine, but starter does not disengage.

Starter checked, engages fine one test machine.

about that starter prob

these mothas are a real pain aren't they? I gotta ford f150 that did the same exact thing, here is what I did......disconnect neg. battery terminal. crawl under that dog and loosen the bolts holding the starter, don't take them all the way off but loosen them about 1/2 way.....then rock the car back and forth in drive. Thats assuming you are on a flat surface and don't roll you car down your driveway into traffic( Just a joke although I did something just as stupid once. ) Crawl back under your car after you jack it back up and and see if the starter dog did not come loose. It worked for me but who knows if it will do the same for you but you can try it if you wish...good luck!
