starting from ground zero

I want to rebuild my 350 8 want to add a little more power but I. Don't want a rough idle. I am new to this. How do I choose the correct parts for my motor? Ppl say choose some good heads than build everything off the heads? Need suggestion on how to pick parts for my motor

Tell us what you want it to do, what you expect for gas mileage, what your budget is, and most importantly, what this will be used in. The guys here will hook you up once you feed them some details.

My budget is about 2 grand for parts I don't Want to lose to much on the gas mileage. I just want to add little more power to my 1987 chevy carprice. I want to go with all edlebrock parts. As of right now I have not made no mods yet its all stock. if more information is needed ask away? I am constantly on summit looking at parts but don't know what to pick or start from.
