starting problems after MSD

OK, so my friend just put the new MSD Digital E-Curve and Blaster 3 Coil on his 82' Corvette. Now, it seems the only way to get it started is to put it on the battery charger on the '225 AMP START' position. It's like his battery can't push enough juice through the coil to give it spark, because it ran fine before this with GM HEI. Alternator and battery both check out fine.

Any common problems with this sort of thing. I was thinking we should run a new coil wire directly from the battery and use the stock one in a relay to turn the power on.

What do you guys think?

Thanks
Dan

simple hook up

I read the instructions to this unit. It is a similar distributor to the 8365. I use that model on my 79 Vette. There is only one vehicle connection to the keyed red wire. Disconnect the red wire from the positive side of the coil. Put a volt meter on the vehicles red wire. You should have over 12 volts with ignition on. You should have no voltage with key off. If you have voltage with the key off you have a short and are draining the battery. Other than that there is no reason for you have to jump the car. The dist pulls a little more current but nothing that would affect the starter. I would say you happen to have the coincidence of the starter going bad at the same time you installed the dist.

PS: When I bought my 8365 it came from the factory with a bad coil.

That looks like a nice setup. Some motorcycles I have messed with,if they didn,t have a good strong 12volts while cranking you wouldn,t get any spark from the ignition system(although they would crank).Like bracket said maybe your starter or battery is a little weak and this unit needs at least 12 volts to fire.Or something else, maybe you have more initial advance and is pulling more current.Either way if it runs fine after started.I would again recheck the battery and starter.
