Steel Workbench

Always wanted a welding table, or steel workbench. Getting a new (read used) toolbox freed up a lot of space and I decided to build one.

It needed adjusters since half of it sits on a mat.

I also at the same time built a small cart for my new plasma cutter. I got tired of dragging it across the ground with a tangle of wires.

And here it is complete, with my plasma and my new Milwaukee HD Chop Saw tucked underneath.

Nice and neat.

And heres some parts for my current project.

Nice work, TM. Of course by now, I wouldn't expect anything less. :D It looks heavy duty enough to do anything needed. Dan

How thick is the top? Got anything you might do different?

In a while, Chet.

The top is 3/16" that I got off the remnants rack at the local steel yard.

So far after using it I wouldn't change anything, but I know I will be adding a simple touch to it soon.

With all the steel you weld daily, the Chinese will have a shortage. Great table. Thanks for sharing the info. Now all I gotta do is learn to weld

Kevin, they just use lead in China. No steel. I can weld, but I'm often asked not to. I shouldn't say it isn't pretty, but it looks as bad as two 17 year old inbred first cousins french kissing at a church social. Trust me, it's that bad....

Twisted, I'd give the entire left half of my body to have your skills and talent. Keep it up.

In a while, Chet.

Those long cold winters must create some very interesting events.
I don't want to know how you know what that particular activity looks like. :D

Steel tables are best. Always flat, (unless you weld stuff to them) don't burn, easy to clean, stronger than dirt.
Having the top longer than the frame underneath is a good way to build a fab table, as it allows you to clamp stuff together easier at the edge.

I think I'd take the grinder to that one corner that is opposite the door. That looks like it could be painful if you bump it when you are walking by.

One of my tables in the shop is a 4'X8' 3/8" plate, about 36" tall, with a 6" overhanging edge. . That thing would get some of my skin almost daily until I filed it's teeth.

Later, mikey

Funny you mention that, I did just that last night while I was polishing some welding berries off the top. I didn't like the idea of walking into it.
