There is another concept for steering that is used frequently. Speedway sells a fire wall mount low level steering gearbox. The conection is by stout link double row chain. The lower outlet allow the build to attach the shafte and run it literally parallel to the frame (side or top) and then connect to the steering gearbox. Flaming River has components for this idea. I see it used ion competition speed bots a lot. Clean simple no crazy angle and good solid mounting areas. If you get a change look in a Speed way catalogue under their steering components section. It works good.
