steering box

anyone know what i can replace a power box with a manual steering box in 73 monte carlo

Most '68-up GM non-full-sized cars (except Corvette, Corvair, and Vega) use manual steering gears that will fit your car. Truck gears mount to the outside of the frame, so they won't work.

You will also need a manual-steering pitman arm, since the shaft hole is not the same size as yours. You'll likely need the coupler that hooks the gear to the column, so grab the one that's on the gear you're going to use.

Your shoulders will curse you at first, but they'll either adapt or die.

i only plan to go straight!!!!!!!!!!
when you say non full sized some examples are?

here is another question do i need to get rid of the power box? or can i just use it without the pump etc?

That's the ones. Nova, Camaro, Chevelle, or any other division's cars that are made from them (clones).

A non-powered power box is harder to steer than a manual box, but a friend of mine drove a '75 truck like that for a couple of years.
