steering box rebuild help
I did a search and looked around but didn't find anything so......I have a 1975 Chevy truck power steering box that leaks from where the steering shaft connects. The auto parts stores want about $180 for a rebuilt one. But a rebuild kit is $49. So can any of you give me advice on how to rebuild the box. I do not know the type of box it is but the #s on it are 7802644. On the adjustment screw plate there is #304 in small print.(could be 804). Hope this helps you to help me!

Hey Gator,
I had this issue with my 69 Beaumont (Canadian Sister car to Chevelle) I have a foctory chassis manual that tells you how to do it. And I also found a few articles in street rod and performance magazines. I too was faces with spending $145 plus core charge to get a new box. So here is an article to get you started. Also see if you can find a chassis repair manual for the truck, it will help you out. The work is not hard... Thanks Jesse! Here are a couple bad photos of the box. By the way this steering box is in my 1955 1st series chevy truck. I added power steering to it and am trying to get everything completed now. (The steering box is out of a 75 chevy truck.)

So is there anyone else out there who has a more detailed explaination of the disassembly of the steering box? It would be nice to know more as I get ready to rebuild the box.......anyone
