steering column

I am streetrodding a 1956 ford pickup and just like most of us here I am on a budget. So here is my question I will be looking for a steering column at my local junk yard and need to know what is the steering column that best fits the pickup some say a pontiac bonneville and some say chevy van. I am a little confused as to what will work.

thanks
ernest

I like to use the Chevy van.

The ones from about 1971 to about 1978 or so have NO key in the column, have tilt and have the P-R-N-D-L2-L1 indicator . They also have the neutral start switch ...

Generally they run from $100 to $150 in my area.
I always have a few " in stock " for future projects.
