short van

The Van columns are shorter. It depends on what you want, column shifter, Tilt, telescope, Switches on the column. Shortening a car column with Tilt and Telescope and column shifter is a real pain, requires special tools to take it apart it and put it back together,

Took a look around because this interested me. Seems GM columns are generally longer than 30", a lot seem to be in the 32"-34" area. Read that a '68 Camaro was 31.5" from the end of the top shaft to the bottom end where the rag joint is, an '85 Camaro is 33" same measuring points, except the '85 has a through pin, not a rag mount.

A page w/some more lengths/splines, etc.: Tilt steering columns

A buck sixty'll get you a new one: Chrome 30" Tilt Steering Column Floor Shift

Looking for 30 or 32 inch steering column - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums is where I saw that type of column mentioned (eBay special), but the one I linked to wasn't exactly like the one in the thread, it had been sold- but others like it may still may be available. I hesitated to even link to it but decided to anyway, in order to let you research it.

I'd bet a dollar to a dime they're imported, too.
