Steering Column shifter flip

My steering column is out of 1970 C-10. Looking at the pic I am having clearance problems. Can this be flipped over to allow better clearance?

This is why they sell floor shifters. Alternately, you could re-position the motor. I have seen motors moved off centerline to the passenger side of the car by 3".....from the factory!!!! Just keep the crankshaft centerline 90 degrees to the rear differential centerline. Watch for transmission clearance at the floor.

is the linkage from trans to column even going to make it between the engine and fire wall.. ??
I'd think you could move the engine forward some.. how your engine bolted in.. is it on frame stands, brackets, if so.. just move it an inch forward.. and if you're lucky you don't already have a driveshaft.

Yes you can. You can do it without disassembling the column.

First mark the column jacket about 8" from the end, with a witness mark vertical on the column to keep track of the orientation. Cut the jacket on the line around the column and remove the bottom, This will reveal the shift tube. Mark this about 6" from the bottom, and put on another vertical witness mark, and then cut the shift tube. Turn the shift tube 180 degrees from the original position, and while keeping it straight, reweld the shift tube. Then reinstall the bottom of the jacket, also 180 degrees from original, and weld it back in place. Now the shift lever on the column points to the right. It works upside down from the original, but you can flip the lever on the trans from pointing down, to pointing up, and it all works as original.

You can also use the rod with the lever that goes to the frame on a pickup truck, with the U shaped lever on the trans, just install it lever pointing up, instead of down like it was in the truck.

To symplify the linkage, you can also use the lever to run a cable to the trans for the linkage.
