steering gear box 55 chevy(manual box)
ok here goes: I just did a manual steering gearbox rebuild on my 55 chevy (car) and it comes down to this what type of lubricant do I put back in it, it was like grease that came out of it but the manual says to put general purpose gear lube back in it so what type should I use? grease or oil? thanks in advance Gene.

This is what i have alway's been told, Do not use straight gear oil as a lubricant, Or it will just leak out. Use chassis lube mixed with a small amount of gear oil, Or use CV grease, Or use Penrite Steering Lube now i have never used this been told it's real thick but good stuff. Ofcourse we use to always go back with like 80w guess things have changed though.
We use to mix the oil for our rearends before filling it we would mix gear oil and skunk oil we did it to get it all mixed together before we installed the oil, Sorry i got to rambling alittle there. http://www.holden.co.uk/displayprodu...pCode=015.947# Cole Last edited by eloc431962; 11-21-2010 at 11:07 AM. |
