Steering help with '66 Chevy II

I just purchased a '65 Chevy II. The previous owner installed a mustang 2 front end. The problem is the turning radius is horrible. Its so bad I don't even want to drive it. I don't think it could turn around if it had 5 lanes to do it. The previous owner said his mechanic told him that was as good as it gets. This cant be so! If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be eternally greatfull.
