Steering shaft - header clearance?

Hi
I have an honest 3/16" clearance between the header and the steering shaft.
Is that enough?
The header pipe is kind of running parallell with the steering shaft in that area, so making a single dent in the pipe will not help (maybe I could carefully flatten the pipe a little in the entire length instead?)

The motor is a Chevy small block and the engine mounts are new and of the universal cushion type with a bolt thru.

That should be plenty of clearance. Engine torque pulls the engine away from that side. I've seen them so close you could barely slide a sheet of paper between the shaft and the header pipe and there was no problem.

One thing I didn't mention - I couldn't use the long set screws and lock nuts so I replaced them with shorter sets, drilled a spot about .062-.125 deep in the shaft splines, used high strength Loc-Tite and lightly punched 2 places to prevent back out but not enough so it would be impossible to remove the u-joint.
