Steering Wheel Control Buttons

I'm investigating the possibility of using a steering wheel with cruise control buttons on my street rod. Can anyone provide insight as to how these controls work, or point me to someplace where I can learn about this?
Thanks,
Ed

The switches are mounted on the steering wheel and there is wiring which runs through the steering wheel to where the steering wheel bolts to the steering colume. There are contacts under the steering wheel which hook up to more wires which run to the cruise control unit. It sounds complex but is is not to bad. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. I came across a web page that showed how this works in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, where they use something called a clockspring to link the electrical inputs and outputs. I think my biggest problem is going to be finding a good looking wheel (without an airbag) that I can use.
