Post Steering wheels

A while back JC whitney and even Mooneyes sold those tiny steering wheels. I don't rightly remember, but they were 5 or 6" in diameter. A friend of mine had a white one in his coupe, a real beetch to drive with, but highly cool to look at. Does anyone sell them anymore? I can't seem to find them. Not exstremely important, just wondering, kinda miss the old stuff.

Have you checked "street rodder" magazine? They seem to have the most adds for the little custom pieces like that. Low rider magazine might also have some in there.

I cheched them both and the only thing Lowrider has is those little chain steering wheels. I don't know if you ever tried driving with one of those, but they are even harder to drive with than the solid ones Thanks anyway.

Unhappy

Hey Weenking,
I don't know where you're at, but they made those things illegal in Texas. They might have done the same where you live.

62pt, I'm in South Carolina, I havn't heard anything about them becoming illegal, but it wouldn't be the first time they snuck a law past us. It looks like I'll be making mine illegal or not

My "vintage 1969" bucket Has a 14" wheel, red metalflake. I remember the smaller ones, I believe they only got down to 10", which is very small, and stupid.
Remember, you car only has to have 2 functions to keep you, your passengers, and others on the road with you ALIVE, i.e. it must STEER and STOP.
Trying to make any emergency manuever with a wheel so small your fingers are interlaced is not something you , or anyone, should have to attempt.
Sorry, I'm on that darn soapbox again.

pasadenahotrod, I read your post on the 32-34 trucks, nice info

The rod I'm building is mostly for show, just something alot different to look cool and point at. The steering wheel won't be on while I'm driving, just for show. I have a 14" wheel as well to drive with.

You might check out some boat dealers or repair, a lot of the jet boats had the small wheels.

HK: I bought mine from either Summit or Jeg's. The more that I think about it, I believe, it was Summit. Anyway it's a Grant and it's 8" wide and 8" deep. It's black and turning my Izuzu low rider (got to try everything once). It works great, (power steering). Back in the 60's these wheels were on my cart, with dual mac 10's. reed carbs, slicks, Fun times for a further street rodder.............t
