Steps to Painting a Car

Help

I have never painted a car and have done very little body work. I do mostly engine, electrical, and chassis work. A friend of mine has the painting equipment and has offered to help me paint my car. He knows about painting (in his own mind) and I don't. I just want a second opinion.

Please give me the basic steps necessary to prepare and paint my car. I don't need all the details at this time.

I have a 72 nova which is already painted yellow. the paint is bad. there is no clearcoat on there now. Don't know what kind of paint is on there. It is not a factory color. I do not know the code. I still want the new paint to be yellow. It does not have to be a perfect match with the old paint. Anything close is fine.

I would suggest that you purchase a few of any number of great books on painting autos and read them cover to cover. Also do a search in the forum and read, read, read. Not to be rude, but it is just something that you cannot put down in a few sentences.
