I was pleasently surprised to see Parks finishing 13th. in the Daytona race.

For those who might not remember Steve, he was picked by Dale Earnhardt back in '96 to race, starting w/the (then) Busch series.

Then Steve was in a wreck during a Busch race in '01 that caused him to lose a lot of ground, and he was not ever quite the same after suffering that concussion.

He has continued to race, just not at the top level. Mainly in the Craftsman truck series.

The fact that the field was thinned considerably due to several "big ones" probably helped him to have such a good finish- but anyone who follows NASCAR at all knows a top twenty finish at ANY race, regardless of the circumstances, is a good finish.

Congrats to him and his team and his fans.

I was fortunate enough to have seen Steve run the hell out of a modified on a weekly basis out at Stafford Motor Speedway in Ct. He ran with ( and beat) some of the greatest Mod drivers in history. My brother had asked me if I noticed the Nerf bars painted on his car at Daytona. I did not, but just the thought of painting a stock car to look like a modified is pretty cool. Lets face it, as far as racing goes, Modifieds are #1. Just ask Ryan Newman

Modifieds DO rule!! I hadn't noticed the nerfs painted on his car, either, that's too cool.
He had overcome a hell of a lot after that seemingly minor head injury- anyone who "knew" him (like through TV interviews) couldn't help but see the devastation it caused in his demeanor, speech and personality. He just was not the same person afterwards.

He should be an inspiration to anyone facing adversity, IMHO.

Yeah, an inspiration at least. I have seen him start to show up in some under classes for the last 3-4 years but man was I surprised to see him at Daytona. It took him a long time to be cleared by Nascar to compete in the upper classes. I spoke with some folks who claim to "know" him on a personal basis shortly after the accident and said he would never drive again. What a comeback ! Go get em Steve !

Steve Parks accident at Darlington happened in 2001, he returned in 2002 for 6 Cup races. In 03 he traded rides (mid season) with Jeff Green and drove for Childress. In 04 he went to the Craftsman Truck Series.
