Stock 340 intake or Edelbrock Performer RPM

Hey guys,

I'm finishing up assembling my engine and I want to get a new intake. It's a mild 340 in my 71 Dodge Challenger, 30 over, purple cam, forged crank, 2.02 1.94 heads, etc.

I have a stock intake. I am running a holley 650 double pumper and I am using the adapter plate on the stock intake for the square bore Holley. I want to get as much as I can out of the engine and don't know if the cost of the Performer RPM would be justified and be a better improvement. I am going with the Performer RPM because I think it will fit with the shaker hood. What do all of you guys think? Thanks for all of your help. Thanks

Dave

The stock intake will make more torque under 3500 rpm.

If the car is heavy (4000 lbs +) and has a low numeric gear (less than 3.00) then you will be better off with the stock intake.

The car runs great but I am changing over to a shaker hood and I'm not certain the hood will shut. It's a Tremec TKO600 5 speed. It a posi 3:27 gear. Weight would be an issue for the intake the stock one is heavy compared to the RPM. Which I like. If it won't give me any gain then I won't do it but even if it's a little I will do it. Thanks again

it seems like you have enough gear for the little 340.

So I would change to the regular rpm intake. Don't get a rpm airgap, as they don't run well in cold climates. Your carb needs heat under it to run correctly. Just use the exhaust restrictor. Get a square flange intake.

what are the cam specs?

how is your ignition timing setup? initial, total mechanical, how much vacuum advance?
