stock 454 or 406 sbc done up

i am in a bit of a pickle i have a 1980 camaro with no motor cuz the previous one blew up and i have two options one is to buy a truck with a 454 dana 60 rear end i dont remember the gear with an extra tran the one in it is bad and extra rims and tires for 1200 bucks i love this motor and would keep the rear end and sell everything else and the other motor is a 406 sbc with 3500 dollars into it and the guy is asking 2000 with alot of horse power and torque but myy main worry is if it blows im out 2000 if the 454 blows i might even break even depending on quality of other parts but idk how much hp the bbc would put out stock i would do small things to it but no internals to give it dress up and added hp thank you for any comment just looking for the best choice

Thats a hard one. Going by the title of your post I said 406 but after reading id say 454. U would be crossing your fingers one way or the other on the motors so u might as well save some money and stash it for a rebuild.

If your Camaro is already a V8 car then the 406 will be a direct bolt in. Install the 406 then walk away and be done with it.
