stock 87 ford 302 engine fair value ?
hi all i snagged up an 87 cougar tonight with the 302 in it, its all stock factory, runs good and complete driveable, what would be fair value on the entire engine with accessories and starter and all the works if i were to sell it ?

im looking to sell it or trade for a chevy engine of some kind

any ideas ?

Buddy of mine just bought a complete 302 EFI engine from an 87 Mustang.Oil pan to upper intake,$250.00 All accesories,and it ran.He got a good deal on it.You may be able to get $100.00 more than he gave for it.Mainly depends on how bad someone needs it.

That's what I paid about 4 months ago for a 92 Cougar HO engine from the boneyard. All electroncs and all..I thought it was a good deal. Here they are generally about $350 or so.

i have another Q

in this car what auto tranny would it have in it ?

its an 87 cougar 5.0L

is it any good, worth saving or leave it in the car for shredder?

i know jack about fords, especially any of the cars and especially any of the 80s junk

Pretty sure that's the AOD. Fair tranny can be build up to take some abuse.
As far as pricing goes, around here they go for about the same as a Th350.

Not likely this motor is an H.O. like those in the Mustangs so don't tell people its the same motor. The plain 5.0 means no roller cam and not sure what else. Most guys building a performance motor would want to start with a 5.0 HO because they are so plentiful and its already an advantage over a plain jane 5.0.

Ask 350 and see what happens.

It's a standard-output 302, but it does have a tiny roller cam, with peak torque occurring at 2000rpm. The trans is the AOD. It's an excellent motor for low-rpm performance, but it will run out of breath at ~3500rpm, 4000 if you bust out the catalysts.

do a compression/vacuum test on it, is it "junk" or good enough for some guy's work truck?

price it based on the results
