A glasspack muffler on a straight 6 makes it sound like a ricer or a Cessna buzzing down the runway. Duals on a straight 6 sounds even worse, plus its a total waste of money. You can try but the sound just won't be there, at least in my opinion, based on helping a friend build up a Plymouth Duster with a 225 six. We did EVERYTHING to the engine and put on a Hooker Header and tried about 4 or 5 different "performance" type mufflers, sounded like a chain saw most of the time.

Re: Stock to bad sounding

J Mark has the correct answer! I know that's not what you were hoping to hear, but that's life with a six cylinder (even the V-6) engine.

Sounds...Like....
[color=lightblue][size=3]Doc here:
Go to a "GOOD" Hi tech Type Muffler shop, They have CD Audio tracks of EXACTLY what your Car should sound like with a combination of pipes / Mufflers BEFORE you buy... (We have a few here in No. Ca.) I have even found a site on line for that.. Don't remember if it was Flo~master or not, you can do a search and see what you find, If I find it I'll Post the link.. I agree, the wrong combination Can make it sound Like a 52 Chev Stovebolt with no muffler...Or Worse..A Homelite on steroids! http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/cg...ml?id=fFpHWnBm Here ya go, this is the one for Flow Master, And not the best selection either, You can find others out there on a Goggle Search or like I said, a good, High tech Speed Shop. Keep the truck stock and run it as a daily driver. Trust me man, in a truck that big with the 300-6, you're not going to scare anybody, no matter how much you spend. Tell your buddy to forget about buying "heads" for the motor, as it only has one
.Those motors last forever. Honest to god man, if it were mine I would change the timing chain and leave it alone until it worked itself to death (probably about 50 years). Use it to tow a nice hotrod back to your house to work on some day- K |

EFI front and rear exhaust manifolds (as they would appear when viewing from the passenger side) texas have any emissions requirements? if not, you can get rid of the cat and have a better throttle response, and if you get rid of the cats you'll be able to run one pipe off of each exhaust manifold to give you true duals as to which muffler to get, common consensus is that the flow 40 series, and the glasspacks sounds like absolute crap on the 300, so i'd advise against them i'm going with a single highflow dual in/dual out cat on my truck running down to two Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers, should be put on there in about two, three weeks, then i'll get something and record something to show you how it sounds i've heard good things about Dynomax Super Turbo's people have also suggested that flows with some sort of glasspack infront of them (to act as a resonator) should help get rid of the "whiny" sound that flows have |

I think i found a exhaust system that has kind of the sound i want w/o tearing into the engine. Then name of them is
DynoMax Super Ultraflow or thats what that exhaust clip site calls them. Some you cant really tell what they sound like cuz it skips bad. but it does it on the clips it says are stock. |

With a 6 it is hard to get that deeper mean tone sound the dynomax have a very nice sound to them. The main thing that happens a lot of times in ricers is that the exhaust almost seems to not keep pushing so hard up through the rpm range and they get a nasty fat sound. I shiver everytime I hear one I really do makes me just want to stick their heads up to me true duals and and rev it a few times THIS IS WHAT POWER SOUNDS LIKE! If you really want to be funny get cut out's lol works everytime!
I would say watch how big of pipes you put on so that they will flow correctly and get either dynomax or flowmasters they last along time and im sure you can find the sound your looking for. If they can make and SUV sound tough there is something for you! |

Thx. theres got to be a way for this I6 to sound like a V8 does. my engine already has the power,all it needs is to get rid of that cheap exhuast system. And get something real.

Powerful and beasty I dunno about,but I do think that hopped up straight 6s got a cool unieque sound.There was a 70 Camaro at our track running a 250 straight 6.Sounds like a really pissed off Bee hive.
