Stock lifters-pros & cons

I have a 350 vortec engine and want to change the stock cam with one from Comp. I would like to save a little money and not change the stock lifters. What are the pros and cons of keeping the stock roller lifters?

Unless your cam is a roller, that's a definite no-no. You'll wipe out the new cam.

Yes,the original cam is a roller cam and lifters. It is a '98 chevy truck engine which had an original roller cam.

In my opinion the stock GM hyd roller lifters are pretty darn good. Unless there's some sort of unusual wear on the bodies or they've got like 100k miles on them then I'd say it would be ok to reuse them. I'd keep them in the order in which you remove them, not so much because of how the faces wear but more how they fit the lifter bores.
If I was doing the motor for a customer I'd change them just for the peace of mind thing but for personal use it might be worth a shot.
Competition Products has OEM roller lifters for Like $150 and you might pull them out and decide they look too far gone, kind of a personal choice.
