Stong Gm Manual Tranny?

is there any manual tranny with overdrive that will hold up to a 400hp 350? i know theres the t56 and tko but both those are $2000. will the nv3500 hold up? i guess if it'll last until next winter then i can save up and get a t56 or tko. it'll be in a 3500lb nova it has a saginaw 4 speed in it now. any ideas?

I would say if you can put up with the 4spd till then just keep it. I have never had any luck with a stock GM 5spd.

The saginaw doesnt have a good rep, but i have good luck with the ones i have had. Ran one behind a 357ci sbc for 2-1/2 years and it got put to the test often by me and my son, And never had the first problem wit it. I wouldnt be scared to use it.
I think most would say dont use it. this is just my .02

Saginaw will be fine if you don't hammer it to death. You could get a 2.88 1st gear T10 or aftermarket Muncie that you could run with 3.23s in the rear axle and have the benefits of OD with the ease of a conventional 4spd (mileage of the 3.23s and 1st gear similar to a 2.20 rockcrusher with 4.11s). You would need a T10/Muncie shifter linkage. I don't think you would have to shorten the D/S.
If you did a little homework you could have a dependable 4spd and highway gears in your car for under the TKO/T56 buy in price; with a lot less fab work.

You could even run 3.08s and it would be decent in 1st gear, especially if you ran a 14 or short 15" tire
