Stopping chrome pitting

My orig cragar SS rims are pitted and some pitts have opened up and rusted a wee bit. Whats the best way to slow and maybe even make the open pitts look less fugly?

Short of getting them re-chromed, an old trick was to give them a good coat of navel jelly. It eats rust and washes off with water. After they get good and dry, get a good can of paste wax and wax them till they shine like new. The paste was will keep the water (rain and snow) off the metal preventing the rust from returning. You will have to re-wax them every week or two to keep a good coat on them. When they get wet again, the water will bead up just like your paint job and come clean easier afterword's.
