Straight Front Axle With Rack And Pinion Steering ... Is It A Good Idea ????
Is It Ever A Good Idea To Steer A Straight Front Axle With A Rack And Pinion Type Steering ???

It could work but isn't ideal. Are you planning manual or power? You weren't planning to mount the R&P to the axle were you? That would be a bad idea.

Manual Rack Is Fine ... Power Is Okay ... My Heart Is Not Set On Either ...
I Have Seen Racks Mounted To The Axle ... But I Do Not Like The Idea Of A Steering Shaft Telescoping Into And Out Of It's Self Constantly !!! I Am Envisioning That This Will Be A Leaf Spring Car ... Without Very Much Spring Travel ... I Mostly Wanna Be Safe .... No Road Race Slalom Courses ... Just Go Straight ... And Slow Down ... Thanks For The Reply ... Rex

Unisteer ?
check out a unisteer, I saw a Rack mounted in a t bucket years ago with the old style upright column and only one side of the rack used going foreward to the left spindle.

So why not just use a steering box that you know works, why the desire for a rack?

I Hate The Rear Steer ... I Would Like To Get All Of My Steering Components In Front Of The Axle ... I Am So Tired Of The Shock Towers And The Steering Gear Box Being Jammed Up In The Way Of Everything ...
I Would Be Happy With A Front Steering Box And A Cross Steering Set Up ... I Had Envisioned The Tierods Running Between The Leaf Springs And The Frame ... But ... Who Knows ... I Will Post Pics When The Tear Down Begins ... And We Can Take It From There .... Thanks For The Reply

Well then If I remember right Ford Rangers "small truck" are front steer so one of those steering boxes would work..About 50 bucks or so at the pi-a-part...
