Straight Six Ford Misses When Wet?!

Took my straight six ford f100 out yesterday in the mud a little and some water and it ran fine in the more stickier mud but when i got in the mud with more water it started to miss and had no power whats so ever. it would eventually come out of it but when i hit water again it would miss again. i checked most of the wires going to the distributer and put petroleum jelly on almost all the connections for the coil and spark plug wires but it still would do it.

And I had a distributor cap that looked great, fire all the wrong plugs and the engine would pop like it was 180 out... looks can be deceving. it's got a crack or is carbon tracking. it doesent take much to make them jump and miss.. plug wires will also do it if there at all bad

I'd put a set of wires on it also.
