Strange request-design my paint scheme.

Alright, here's what I'm after. I found a 3.8L turbo '80 Monte in a local yard that had a "flowing two tone" paint scheme. The first picture shows the way that it was painted. Unfortunately, the rest of the car had been bondo'd and rattle-canned so badly that I couldn't ell where or how the rest of the car was done. But the lines of flowing color just tripped my mind. I really like it, and I'd like to see how all the artists here could render it, if you guys don't mind.

What I'd like is to retain the factory Gold color of my '78, but add a similiar (to the '80) black flowing paint line that follows the rest of the contours of my car. Divide the gold and black with a red stripe. Nothing glaringly wide, just a small pinstripe of red to aid in the transfer of colors. I've included a side shot of a black Monte (that is not mine-wish it was) and a couple of different views of the parts car. Feel free to ask for any other pics from a different view, as I'll get them up as soon as possible if needed.

Thanks for taking the time, Chet.

If only we could paint it w/a magic paint that would make its body style appear to be at least 20 years older!

Apparently there's not enough cookie cutter '69 Camaros or 383 powered '57 Chevys to make you happy.....

Sorry if I offend the real car guys here. Thanks anyway, Mike.

Gone for a while, Chet.

I'm sorry, Chet I didn't mean to offend you. I was poking fun at the magic paint thing. ( that ain't no kind of brownies talking)

I like Monte Carlos. I think they are OK cars to put your time and effort into. I had a 78 for about 3 years. I wish I had kept it.

Later, mikey

Rob, you are DA MAN!! The first one is exactly what I was after! Now I just got to find a way to see what the black over the gold would look like. Great link, too. I've got it saved somewhere else, but I now have it saved in my regular Monte Carlo file. Thanks again. Of course, the engine from the second car could find it's way on into my car...

Mike, it wasn't the magic paint deal, it was the "make the body style look 20 years older" that got me irked. Just a bad day coupled with that just shot me beyond mad enough to spit nails. This car has a very special meaning and place in my family, and that comment coupled with the stuff I have heard in the last week concerning that car just has given me a bad attitude. Sorry Mike and Rob.

Ina while, Chet.

Paint Job

Schnitz I saw one of the ~80s model Monte That was painted like RObs pic in front but he used light silver blue for the silver area and dark blue for the black. on the back of the car he put the dark blue on the top of the trunk and down the finder so it batched the way it was under the side windows and around the rear window leaving a little less than a foot wide stripe of the silver blue going over the top on the C pillar (I hope that made since) I can't remember how the back was done around the tail lights. The car looked really nice and was well done. I don't have a pic of the car (I looked) and my drawing is slightly worse than my singing so that's out. I think the Monte would look good gold and black (remember the old firebirds gold with the black glass T tops the color contrast looked good.)
Good luck on yours however you decide to do it.

Good Luck!

One of the guys at work said he thought that maybe I should try doing something to show the flowing body lines over the rear quarters too. The "flow" from the front like on that '80 breaks like a foot before the rear of the door, and then the quarter crease picks up again almost at door guard level again. That'd be cool to pull off, but man oh man, it'll be tough for sure to make look right. That's why I'll leave it to the pros. Malc and Brad, are you guys reading this?

Thanks, Chet.

Dang, we posted at almost the same time, so I missed your posting. Till now. We've got a guy on Montecarlocity.net (his screen name is kartoon) that has something similiar to what you describe. Actually, I almost forgot the Firebid look. Good thing I have no plans for a screaming chicken on the hood. The only other thing I've got to add is mine will still have the Landau top, so the paint will have to compliment that as well. I'm just too picky I suppose.

Thanks, Chet.
