Street Legal Dragster

Has there ever been a Street Legal Dragster before?
I tired googling but nothing came up, but I would love to see a Dragster thats still street legal, maybe one that only runs 9s or 8s. You could probably get into 7s since there are 7 second street legal cars (the NMCA has a class for 7 second cars).
Has anyone ever seen a street legal dragster?

Have not seen a street legal rail but there is a street legal sprint car that shows up at the local show and shines. Some of the t-buckets could probably get into the 9 sec bracket if they had the proper safety gear and were allowed to run..Those cars would most likely be placed in a nostalgia altered class..

There was one here in Minnesota a while back. I'm not sure if it is still around. It skirted the license and registration rules. We were talking about it earlier this summer at a breakfast cruise. By having a part with the original VIN number and a title conceivably you could register it as a streetrod or collector car with no inspection. Techincally it is a restricted title only allowing operation to and from events. This is one of the reasons I went to the trouble of getting real Minn state title.

There was also a funnycar at one time but whether it really hit the street or not I can't say. I think it was a Vega on the old style chassis.

I've posted pics of that one, from Elma this year...

Look in the center of this next pic, yes, it's a license plate...

I bought this magazine when it was new!!! :-)

As I recall... which usually gets me in trouble... the article said the builder had assembled two of these!

Wild stuff... especially with a "cammer" for power!

Street legal Dragster

There was a VW funny car in western WA that the guy made street legal. Last I heard the owner was putting it back to it's racing form. Google 70's funny cars there's a couple of pics there.
