street legal race cars/ yes or no?

there seems to be on the web and at car shows a lot of these. really starting to see a lot of exrace cars coming out to the car shows here in the nw. l have seen a 1932 ford, 1934 ford and a 40 something chevy old dirt track cars that were retired in the 70's made street legal.
several sprint car and legend cars and a few dwarf cars. even the nascar crowd has got into this "trend".

thought or comments; if ya have any pix of these kind of vehicles, please post'em.

just a question, not meant to rile up anyone, l am just wondering about this topic and this board has a lot of knowledgable people on it, so l hoped some here could answer this on circle track style street legal race cars.

l know pro-street and road-race style street cars have been around a long time. so is circle track cars the next step??

later, thanks

I think it's great, as long as safety is foremost.

Interesting question!

Back a ways, there was a Richard Petty blue NASCAR themed production car- I don't recall if it was Dodge or Plymouth, or even what year it was. I imagine it's a collector car today.

There's a current Petty Hemi Challenger, too.

I'm sure everyone's seen the Earnhardt and Gordon factory Chevys. Far cry from a real NASCAR look, though.

But for catching on like Pro Street, P Turing, etc., I don't know. Seems like it catches when the idea comes up in the car rags, but nobody has really taken the ball and ran with it, like the "name" builders and such.

It wouldn't take too much to replicate the look. Basic paint jobs (excluding the "wrap" treatment the Cup cars get). Minimal bodywork that could be done by an amateur if they took their time (radiused wheel wells, smoothed hoods and trunks, air dams and spoilers, etc.

Fully done, the NASCAR look could result in the safest car on the road today- IF it was given a real chassis and cage along w/the window nets, restraints, etc.

But those cars are works of art to stay below their minimum weight of 3400 lbs (IIRC), despite all the safety equipment; if a car was built w/that kind of cage in an otherwise stock chassis it would be heavy, I'd imagine.

So, you thinking of doing one?

Actually there are those of us that like that "Flat Track Flavor" and to my eye and thinking that is a much more practical way to go for a street car than some of the over the top Pro Street rigs that have been built..

street legal vintage modified dirt car

my one to replace the dwarf car.

a street legal jalopy/vintage modified.

a 1948 windser 4 door cut down 11" and put on a dirt car chassis.

when finished the colors are two tone red and no fenders with 2 seats & opening suicide doors.

The chassis without the skin ,with the door bars back in place for side impact ,,similar to the VW rail buggy only MUCH better and more fun

Unlike UPS which always turns right,, I would have to turn left ,

Vintage racing has been around a long time, I love seeing some of the cars I watched as a kid running around a track. I don't think I would want one that is street legal, but that is just me. Okie Jalopies, they call them here, an old modified look with mostly SBC. Every now and then there is a sprint car (old) that comes around, they are a blast. These guys are doing something they love to do.
