Post Street Racing

I'm with this guy on the topic. I used to think it was fun, now its just stupid. This city not too far from here, stockton, just impouded over 100 cars in one night after doing a year long investigation in streetracing. Im scared ****less now.

Cool

I like to Drag race. I have Pro-street cars and want to let them loose on the street sometime but the track is the best and safest place to do it. Just to many cars out on the road and to easy to KILL SOMEONE.

Thumbs down

In 1966 I watched three members of a vacationing family hit and killed by a couple guys racing on US A1A (on the beach) in Ft.Lauderdale, Fl.

Racing anywhere but a track is dangerous and just plain stupid. <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[nono]" />

This is a no win argument, but I gotta stick my neck out here and get clobbered anyway.

If 2 drivers race down main street they are idiots. If 2 drivers race near the edge of a cliff they are idiots. If 2 drivers go thru town like the "Fast and the Furious", they are idiots. If 2 drivers race on an unpopulated stretch of road with no intersections and spotters at each end, that does not make them idiots.

Pilots fly over my head all day long, and a few of them do crash. I don,t run around in a panic sceaming "idiot" or "dangerous".

I street raced alot and did it safely. I am not trying to promote it, but I also own guns and like to hunt, and do that safely as well. Every time some idiot kills somebody, the sport is blamed; racing, hunting, boating, drinking, etc.

Let's start blaming the people responsible for wreckless endangerment, instead of blaming the 300hp car, the 300 cal gun, the 80mph boat,and the 150 proof rum. I'm sick of losing my freedoms and pleasures, one by one, beccause some *** can't be sensible, or control himself.

Sorry for the rant, must be that time of the month.

Let me say this Kitkar. What if you are going down that lonely stretch of road, racing, and a deer happens to run out in your path and you have to swerve to miss it. Would you hit the guy next to you or miss him and kill yourself. Do I hear the word idiot? A friend I went to school with lost his brother that just graduated the week before because of a harmless drag race. You ever see anyone up close that came through the roof of a hardtop? Ever see what the roof of the car looks like when a person is ejected through it? You ever see what brains look like 60 seconds after the accident laying out in a lawn? You ever have a friend wave to you just a few minutes before he lost control and hit a culvert pipe at well over a hundred mph.
Then I bet you have never run around with a guy that has one of the best looking Mustangs around. It used to belong to my brother-in-law. It makes you proud that someone else took that car and put all kinds of money, blood, sweat, and tears into it to make it one of the best. It's also sad that his parents had to destroy the car because it was their sons pride and joy. He was riding with someone else one night that thought they had their car under control on a back country road. Not to worry though. He only lived a few years as a vegetable before he finally passed away.
Do I hear that street racing is idiotic now?
It kinda gives a new meaning to "lets go cruising" doesn't it..

Street Racing is dangerous.

Street Racing is against the law.

Street Racing is a fact of life..........

I have raced at the track (NHRA AND IHRA), some small backwoods southern dragstrips and on lonely, deserted back roads. I had a 69 Nova SS with Big Block power that went mid 10's in 1970. All motor...no NOS or supercharging, tubocharging. Just 2 big Holleys.

That was then.......

30 years ago there was not the danger involved that there is now. Traffic, police, and lack of 'safe' places to street race make street racing stupid now. BUT IT WILL NEVER STOP !
As long as 2 folks have a car...some race will get started.

Do people drag race classic cars on the streets??

I live in los angeles, and I have admittedly been to drag races out here. Although I have only seen late model domestics (mustand/camaro) and imports (civics, integras etc). I have never seen older cars ('55 Chevy's, '32 Fords etc) race. It would be cool though...you know, if it werent dangerous.

kevin 45;

I only raced daytime, open road, no forest, no curves, no hills, no place for a deer to jump out of, no oncoming traffic, no kids, no booze, no drugs, etc. Maybe ppl who live in the city can't comprehend this. I've seen ppl killed in car accidents too, but not in a safe organized drag race. If you have, someone was probably careless. I stick to my guns on this one. A drag race is a quarter mile and about 20 seconds @ 120mph or less for most street cars. This is not a dangerous situation. No way, no how.

Safe is safe, and dumb is dead. Next critic please step up and swing.

racing is not safe. no matter how many precautions you take, no matter how careful you are, anything can happen on the street. it's as simple as that.

kitkar,
All I can say is maybe when you grow up you will change your mind. At least at a sanctioned drag race thee is medical personel in the case of an accident. Out in the boonies when you blow a tire at over a hundred mph and lose control it would take the medical team a little while to get there. But maybe being pinned in a car hanging on to the last thread of life would be your cup of tea. Oh yea, don't forget to carry a cell phone with ya just in case.

If you want to street race...do it on foot. If you want to DRAG race...do it at the track.
Later,
WEIMER

Kevin;

You're watchin way too much TV, Man. You've gotta get out there and breathe a little. People drive CROWDED freeways @ over 100mph every day (not me cause that's dangerous and stupid), but I will do it alone on an empty back road. As long as you keep bringing up these TV scenarios, then yeah, it's dangerous. I stated before, that this was a no win discussion for me.

As far as me growing up, if that means I can,t race with a buddy ocassionally, then let the reaper come for me. I'm 47 and, I have thought about it but ... nooooo, I don,t think so, I,m havin toooo much fun.

Don't take this personal, Kevin. I've read you've posts and you sound like a good guy. I just don't agree with you on this issue.
