Street or strip???
I am new at this and just purchased a 1968 nova. It has a 383 stroker holly 750 carb hooker header msd ignition 292/480 comp cam edelbrock victor Jr high rise intake 4.11 posi turbo 350 trans... I can't make my mind up weather I should make it a track car or a street car like I would rather??

sounds like its aleady a track car with those gears. what you have to ask yourself is---------how much do you like getting tickets? you'll never get on the interstate and do 70 with those gears and a three speed. you'd be turning close to 4000rpm's if not more! are you disciplined enough not to cut up on public roadways? i know i'm not so i keep my car mild although i'd be lying if i said i never did 140 on I-49. that was really stupid by the way, i dont recomend it. the high rise intake works at high rpm, the 350 has only 3 gears and no lockup on the converter(unless its a 350-c). you could put highway gears back in it and still be satisfied with perform if you really want a street car. or keep the setup and swap to a 700r4 trans. the 700 has a lower first gear though so you may not be able to keep tires on it with 4.10's!

Totally up to you....Do you have a truck and trailer to take it to the track?
If not, I guess its a strip/street car

I would keep it street legal
you will get way more use out of a hot street car, that you can take to the track then a really hot track car, you can not take to the street |

I agree with matts37chevy; keep it mostly street, even more so than it is now. You'll get more use and more enjoyment out of it that way. Drag racing is fun, but even if you go every week it's still a limited amount of use, and it can become quite costly. I did it for 16 yrs. and had a lot of fun, but it was more affordable to do as a hobby back in the 70's and 80's than it is today.
