And also basecoat isn't always going to have that perfect look like you are leaving it that way, you are going to put clear over it which gives it a uniform gloss. But spraying it with a little more overlap, a little slower gun movement may be enough to get rid of those stripes.
As DBM brought up, what gun and air pressure are you using and what temp is the shop and the reducer?
