stripped filler bung on rear differential

The filler bung on my differential (93gm pick-up) is one of those ones that you use a 3/8" socket extension on. Mine is stripped and I can't get it out. Is there any fix for this?

stripped plug

Take a 3/8 bolt, not too long and stuff it in the area that is stripped.
Then wire feed weld the bolt to the plug. You shouldn't need to weld all the way around the bolt. If you do, take care to weld a small area at once , let it cool and the weld some more.

This will work. Been there, done that!!

I agree with nomad55, but I would sacrifice a 3/8 extension to weld to it, just after welding try to turn it out, use the heat from the weld in your favor.

If not the hammer and chisel will work also.

weld a 3/8 drive extention onto it.

While it is hot melt some candle wax on it to flow into threads.

Let 'all' cool down ... fullly

twist the plug out

I have an old 3/8" extension that's a bit buggered and will gladly sacrifice it. I have no welder though but should be able to get some friends to help. Thanks guys!
