Of course I don't have a freaking mill in my garage! Neither does 99.99% of the guys here, I'd wager.

And anyway, w/so many GOOD heads available, like has been already said- unless you have the heads basically free and a lot of desire, there's not much point in it, anyway.

My fiance actually told me I need to look into buying a used Bridgeport. After realizing how much I've spent in the past year alone on head work if I did it myself I could have come very close to breaking even on the tools...

I do have 2 buddies that have mills, but they live over an hour and a half away and aren't the most competent people with them.

Everyone should own a mill

To the OP, go to thirdgen.org and do a search on this. Has been done several times at very low cost, but that last part depends.

As has been stated on here it depends on the condition of the heads. If they don't need new guides, valves seats, or vavles, then this can be done for less than the cost of a new set of vortec heads. I pick up al LT1 heads for less than $200 in my area quite often, and have a shop I work with that will do the welding for $100 for the pair. Then you need springs to match your cam, and a drill to make the correct water passages and your done. Less than $500 for the pair.

If you do none of the work, need/want new parts, or labor/heads cost is more in your area, it may not be worth it compared to a set off used al aftermarket castings. Best bet would be to figure out all the extra costs and see how much used aftermarket heads that are ready to go will run you and compare.

Josh

Nice post, AS. Real nice...

Better mind your "P's and Q's" my friend- or they're gonna GETCHA!

Doesn't seem to matter that this thread is soon to be one year old. Heads will roll, punishments will be doled out- I'm warning you.

Oh, that's right. You're not me. Good thing for both of us.

It's really difficult for me to believe ANYONE would dig up a 10 month old thread to make a boorish statement like the last post you made in this thread.

I have supported you in the past, you've been an asset to this site for the most part, but your behavior lately leaves me scratching my head. Now you've shown the wrong side (that would be your back side) to me, and I ain't liking it. Sorry.

One more reason on the edit button and the time limit. Once you've hit the submit button, 30 minutes to ponder over choices is not a long time. It's your choice. IMO, a guy that screws up, has the cojones to admit he screwed up, and can go on, will get my respect more times than not. We're all human here, but peeing in the wind most times gets the wrong person wet.

You and me both, dinger.

I did NOT first bring up this stupid thread! The way you feel is likely what I felt when I read Post #22.

Since it was brought out and "used " against me as some kind of vendetta, I returned the favor- to him, not you. If he's poaching on your territory, take it up w/HIM, not me- he was the one who chose to use this particular thread to call me out. I cannot control what he does in that regard. But since he used this thread, so did I.

You are among my "favorite" moderators, along with 68NovaSS, dinger, HemmiGremmie, T-bucket23, powerrodsmike and OneMoreTime to name a few, in no particular order. As well as former mods who've retired from the game, who shall remain unnamed.

While I am not here to "win friends and influence people" I do value your opinion and am sorry if what I did upset you.
