A stronger TH350C

Okay, so I have a th350c that has 50k miles that is stock and I need to build it up to handle the power of my 400hp SBC engine. I want to keep the lockup feature for the highway and faster roads. I have the Ron Sessions book and it says that "A good shift programming kit, wide direct-clutch-drum bushing, and a Tuftrided-surface hardened-intermediate roller-clutch outer race, along with a quality rebuild, will suffice for about 90% of the 350's intended for heavy-duty, off road, and street/strip use." What im wondering is 1)what is the definition of a quality rebuild, in terms of a street/strip tranny? do I just get a standard rebuild kit? a master rebuid kit? or do I get a performance one? 2)Someone told me to get a few more things like double up the busings on the sun gear and get a stiffer spring of something, also. What exactly do I need?

Ron Sessions book states it well. I followed his suggestions and have a great trans. I added the hardened race as suggested and bought a $10 "shift improver" kit (green box). It will include the necessary spring upgrades and good instructions.
The master kit I bought from TranStar had the wider bushing included. I also bought a full bushing kit (not really needed but figured what the heck).

To me, a "quality rebuild" means a brand name kit and attention to detail. Some shops will just change one of these and a few of those and call it good.

I had under 200 bucks including a reman converter in mine and am totally happy with how it shifts.

Mark

thank you. I have one more question. I went on www.transmissionpartsusa.com and have the following items in my cart. Is this what I will want? The bushing kit it currently out of stock, so I will get that elsewhere...but for the other items, do I have them right?

-TH350 TH350C transmission master kit 1969-1986.........................$69.17

-TH350 Wide direct drum bushing 1969-1986...................................$1.06

-TH350 Heavy duty intermediate clutch, outer race 1969-1986.........$27.68

-TH350 Lockup, performance reprogramming kit 1981-on..................$67.87
