Post Stuffing Big Engines Into Tiny Cars

In the newest Hot Rod they have an article on a a Ford Focus with a 5.0. It is built by Jerry Kugel of Kugel Komponents. He drove the Firebird at Bonneville that went over 300 mph. Anyways this Focus is ridiculous. They couldn't find any tires that would keep it on the ground. By trying to fit it in the focus, after reinforcing it, it weighed in at about the same of a Mustang GT, with comparable oomph. It gets mid 13's. Is it just me or would you just rather have a mustang?

I would rater have the stang. For the price of a focus plus the 302 kit you could build a pretty stout mustang. The focus would be a good sleeper project though.

I’d rather have my modified old Sunbeam Tiger back… Shelby 302, C6, 9 inch… It was a really fun car!

Maybe its cause I have a Gremlin or possibly just the fat blocking off my brain stem, but I like the different weird projects. Whether its a Mustang, Camaro, Vette, its always the same basic thing. Not saying by any means this Focus is better than a real muscle car, just neat to see something diff. HG

I think i would take advantage of the millions of dollars Ford pays it's mustang engineers, and all the bugs that have been ironed out over the last 25 years.

I agree with Hemmi, I'd rather build something that you won't see anywhere else, or at least rarely see. If you have a Mustang, you have a whole world full of Mustangs to compete with and to get blurred into the crowd. You may have to give up some performance for the novelty of uniqueness (don't know if that's even a word), but you get some attention to your work that might have been overlooked. When you say "Why?", I say "Why not!".

I'd go with the stang also, but think of the bug eyed reaction you would get! It'd be fun

Cool

That peace of crap Focus is what FORD's pushing overseas. And Racing in a class the Mustang isn't open to run in? I saw them running on SPEED vision this past weekend. That thing looks like a furnature crate with wheels and a V8. These auto companys will put their money anywhere they want. Only the Customers will have the last say with this DOG! It may just turn out to be the HOTTEST thing overseas?

one word... SLEEPER!!!!! the point isn't to have a fun cruising car, definitely not a chick magnet, but hey, mid-13's is better than most stock newer muscle cars. throw a turbo or blower on it...? lots of 5.0 aftermarket speed parts. and a focus makes much better camo for a fast v8 than an older car that's still in good shape (up here, at least, the only old cars still around are total beaters or real nicely taken care of). so... yeah, it's not a muscle car, yeah it's not classy, but hell, it's fun. drive what ya want, that's the bottom line.
i'll always dream of putting a beat-to-**** 80's toyota camry (or similar) body on a fully caged tube frame, with solenoid-controlled exhaust dumps mid-car... i'll stop before i drool on my keyboard. hey, i'm weird that way.
