Subframes

I was wondering if a 1980's sub frame for a camaro would fit in a 1971 camaro

Camaro, no e. The '74 to '81 Camaro used a slightly different sub frame because of the bumper mounts. '74 was the first year for the big bumpers with the shock absorbers. Other than that they are about the same. After '81 the Camaro frame was completely different.

After 1981, the Camaro didn't HAVE a subframe. The front suspension was McPherson struts that bolted directly to the unibody shell.

There is another difference between early and later F-body subframes. The distance between the body mounting points on the 70 1/2 to 74 subframes is shorter than the 75-81 subframes. The difference is several inches but I do not know the exact amount.
