this will all depend on how much cash you have to throw at it.

how fast are you making the car? is the suspension already done? whats left to do?

vinniekq2 07-02-2013 05:11 PM

maybe one of the mods can change your title for you? being lost has nothing to do with what you want?

i bought the car as a roller all suspension is done only thing left is motor an trans.i wanna try an be in the 10sec class.i got a ford 9in with 4:56 gears. the guy i bought the car off of put a ton of money into it.then i bought a 383 off my uncle it was setup to run on the street.and it didnt have what it took to run down the track as is.so i need to give it alought of love.

to get into the 10s with a 3600 pound car you will need 700 HP. I dont think a 383 will be the answer with out a turbo or super charger.probably 20,k away from engine/trans and hardware.
easiest way would be a N.A. 540

so what do you think i can do with what i got.:( ive seen cars with 355cid go in the 10"s or is there somthing im missing.

vinniekq2 07-02-2013 06:56 PM

first;
how much drag racing experience do you have?
how well is this car set up? ie suspension/tires
that 355 car you saw? what was done to that car,is your car as good as that car and what did that other car weigh?
You can go fast with a 383,just need the right combination

you have to detail what you have

Guys don't normally jump into drag racing and go 10's right away.

I strongly suggest that you put the motor into the car and take it to the track the way it is. Once you have some time slips and are able to weigh the car with you in it, you will have a better idea of what to do to go faster.

haulingas 07-02-2013 07:52 PM

I dont know much about the car I saw.but mine is fully gutted out it has 15/10/29 hoosiers on it.ford 9 inch with 456 gears.8 point cage fuel cell w/2 optimum battiers.half inch fuel line I think.traction bars the guy left all the msd hardware in it.get more info to you on that in a minute.be cool rad an fan.and a bunch more forget the name of the suspension components get back to you on that one to.line lock quater stick shifter with lockout.

A freshen is never a bad idea, but did it need that? Some tests would have given you an idea, but that's a moot point now. You should learn as much as you can and be able to do rebuilds yourself, machine work aside. It'll come to you, just don't set the bar to high starting out.

What told you that? With no experience, it would have been fine...

But it's your money to waste...
