Summit Racing Paint
 

Has anyone used the Summit Racing paint system? I was just curious of the quality compared to some of the bigger names.

your going to get what you paid for. relabeled kircker i believe.

yep. its kirker... not bad, especially if your a beginner. but at that point, just buy the Kirker

Summit's single stage paint is not Kirker from my understanding, but it's made by the same manufacturer. Call Summit, they'll tell you who it's made by. Summit also has a new 2 stage, base / clear, line that's not made by the same company that makes the single stage stuff. It's more expensive though and is probably right around the price of some of PPG's stuff. I wouldn't think a company like Summit would sell crap and go ruining their name. I could be wrong though. $$$

I bought some of Summit's paint. I have used the high build 2k primer so far, still doing body work, and it cover's well and sands easily. I'm happy with what I've got so far. Being that this is my first paint job I opted to get an inexpensive paint and a Harbor Freight gun until I get the hang of painting my own vehicles.

For a gallon of: 2K primer, epoxy primer, s/s gloss black, s/s hugger orange, high solids clear, plus all their activators, epoxy catalyst, reducers, surface wash and wax & grease remover, it was right $500. Not too bad. Try that with PPG's lesser line for that price. ;)

I also researched peoples results before I bought the paint and it seems to be a great product so far. Here are some various projects that used Summit's Paint.

i was happy with mine, sprayed in my garage. SS black cherry pearl with M/s clear. bought the whole kit for about $180

TCP global / Restoration Shop may be another paint line to consider. I've heard good things about their line of paint too and they're reasonably priced. :thumbup:

Super Beatle that is one bad ***** bug. She will look sweet in black.

I used Restoration Shop on my Sedan Delivery. This was the first BC/CC I had ever shot and as a novice, I was quite happy with the results. Next time, however, I intend to use Restoration Shops base but then use Southern Polyurethane for my clear rather than the Kustom Shop clear which comes with the TCP kit. It won't cost much more and I hear the SPI clear is the cat's meow.

I have heard nothing but good things about SPI also.
How about the sandability of summits epoxy primer? Anyone have any experience with it?

Chip. I'm currently sanding my bug, but I'm sanding the high build 2K primer. It sands real easy. I've got one more coat of high build I'm going to spray and then I'm going to epoxy primer the whole thing to seal up the body work and to give it a uniform color. I might hit the epoxy with 600 grit. I'll report back what I think.
