Also its a ss but will it still need a clear with the color I saw a fella on here shot some&then sprayed clear. Also I know ss metallics can be tricky what about this? |

I know nothing about the particular paint brand you are talking about. But a SS "pearl" is no pearl to me. It's basically a SS metallic paint, that's it. It may have a nice "shimmer" as the flake is nice, but it's a simply a SS metallic, period.
I won't shoot any metallic SS, just makes no sense to me when the bc/cc systems are so easy. And yes a real "pearl" is a base color sprayed, then a pearl in clear is sprayed over that, then clear is sprayed over that, it's a 3 stage system. Here is a nice example of what we are talking about. In this link you will see a "let down panel" where the pearl is sprayed over a base. The more coats of pearl the darker the color. You make the color any way you want by the amount of coats of pearl you apply over your base. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard//...d.php?t=229416 ![]() Brian |

As martinsr said a true pearl paint job is a 4 stage paint job. Base, pearl, color, clear. But some of the newer base clears are getting real close.I did a dark green that looked black untill the sun hit it then it went green which is what your pearls will do. A single stage most likly will not be much more than a nice metalic paint job. You can clear coat a single stage but unless its all about cost why not go base clear. Just what are you trying to do with this paint job and what effect are you going for?

True 3 stage if you dont put a candy color on it. Imo the only way to go anything else just looks blah.

I painted my friends plow truck with the Summit single stage white and for the price I was very happy with it.
Like what was said before you will get a better results using a base/clearcoat system. Tri coats are kinda a thing of the past with the OEM automakers and are hard to do repairs. |
