Sump Quantity ????

Can anyone tell me the correct amount of oil for a 76-79 305 SBC ????

The aftermarket dipstick registers full with very little oil and 3 times over the limit with only 4.5ltrs

Your dip stick is not the correct one for your engine or it`s holder isn`t fully seated in the block. I usually install a quart in the filter then spin it on, then add 4 quarts there after. After starting to check the oil pressure and for leaks next I shut it down, let it sit 10 minutes then recheck the oil and add if needed.
