wiring for sun tach II

I just ourchased a Sun Tach II. The green wire goes to the neg side of your dist. The white goes to a instrument panel light wire that is on when you turn your lights on. The red goes to a12v spot when your key is on and the black is ground.

If you have a MSD setup the green goes to the tach output on the MSD box and NOT the coil.

I just realized, when I purchased this 65, the ignition has been changed. It doesn't have the old style distributor or coil setup. I guess it is all in one now. I am going to have to figure ou where the green while goes on mine now.

the didtributor system on this car doesn't have a coil that I can see. It is all built into the distributor mechinism I guess.

I figured it out. The coil wire from the tach goes to the brown wire in the three wire plg.

Or, if you look right beside the power wire on the cap (marked "Batt"), there's a plug-in that's marked "Tach".

I saw that. But didn't realize there was another plug underneath. I will know next time. Thanks so much.

How do you add a photo under your name?

I don't remember where to send it, but you submit your photo and Jon will put it in your avatar.

This is an old thread and I just realized that Bull called me BM.
My wifes a nurse, so I know that BM stands for Bowel movement (sp?)!

Hey all. I have a little $40 sunpro tach and I can't figure out why it is not working. I am sure it is hookd up right. I hope anyways. But my ignition system is the Ford TFI IV setup on my 85' f-150 300 inline six. Any advice you guys can give me will greatly be appreciated.

there probably is a little switch for 4-6-8 cylinders on the back but still it should be moving. if it isnt moving at all it's probably junk, but at least look for a switch first

oh yeah, thanks for digging this post up because i still havent put my tach on, lost the info above, and was wanting to install it again!!

no problem man... Yeah I found the switch and it still don't move at all. It is starting to really bug me alot cause I got it for christmas and I still don't have working. I heard that I mght need a tach filtering kit to make it work on TFI IV ford ignition. But thanks for the input man.
