Sungear Shell

Fellas,
As previously mentioned I am in the process of tearing down my 700r4. This is a first for me and you all have been very helpful.

I noticed that my Sungear Shell was not perfectly straight. I would say that when I put the straight edge along the side that I see, maybe, less than a 1/16th of an inch of space.

Does this need to be replaced? If so can you recommend a replacement brand?

This is going behind a 350 that when rebuild will be putting out 275 - 300 HP. It is going in a relatively heavy 51 Chevy Hardtop.

Thanks
Deon

Cool

do the tabs at the end of the shell that engage into the reverse input drum spread out?

I would worry more about the splines on the shell. See they have wear on the splines. Repalce if they do.

Check the area around the splines for cracks.

There are redesigned part available from Gm but you have ask for them as the original replacement part numbers are still good and are what is specified in the computer parts listings.
