I have a set of GT40 heads sitting in the garage. When I got them a while back, they guy who I got them from and did a little work to them and cleaned them up. Over time sitting in the garage, they've gotten surface rust all over them. If I spray them down with WD-40, and wrap them in plastic, will that stop some of the rusting?
I also have a complete 302 and 351W sitting in the garage. What would be the best way to store them? I'm sure it will be at least a year before I do anything with them.
Thanks for the response. Actually, they're some heads I acquired a while back. I'm just a pack-rat when it comes to parts. From time to time, I see a lot of guys looking for the 40s and the 40Ps, so I keep them around in case I can sell or trade them one day.
. I washed some new 351W World heads with soap and water... and they instantly rusted like that in seconds... got to dry them fast and primer and paint them if you know the color...
Pickup some metal prep. Clean the heads up with the prep. It'll dissolve the rust and keep them from the rusting for about a year indoors. In addition, when you paint these heads that paint job will last longer. This is also excellent for sheetheet metal storage It's available from all your automotive hobby suppliers.
