Firebird/front springs

I just replaced the front springs on a '71 Firebird Formula 350.The stock ones were too old and allowing the tyres to rub on the very edge of the fenders on bumps.Headers suffered too.Problem is that the new ones we got from the States made the car even lower,like a low rider.Here are the specs:

Original: 17" long,5/8" diameter

New ones:13" long,3/4" diameter.

Although a lot thicker the new ones are too short.Maybe the 3/4"
are Trans Am springs.But the height...?

Sounds like you got a set of racing springs. The springs that are used on Camaros, Firebirds, Novas etc for stock car racing, are 12-13 iches, and usually at least 800 lb per inch of compression, if not higher. I would say those are way too stiff for street use.
The stock springs are more like 400 450 lb per inch. To run those racing springs, look and see where the tires are hitting. If you want to keep them you will have to do a little hammering on the inside of the lip of the fender.
